New childcare facility to come to Tigard

Ground has been broken on a new Kiddie Academy in Tigard. This chain that provides childhood learning and childcare is the first such facility in Oregon.

Kiddie Academy is on W. Upper Boones Ferry Road. The facility will cover 10,800 square feet and will feature three playgrounds, including areas for children to play basketball and soccer. It will also open up programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as music and chess programs, to provide a well-rounded education for children.

Subha Singaram will own and operate the Kiddie Academy and will be supported by Prabakar Murugappan, with help from Deepika and Vijay Ilavarasan, who run a Kiddie Academy in the Fishers Landing neighborhood of Vancouver. Murugappan said the new facility will have close to 150 students. There will be after-school programs for those between the ages of five and twelve, and a dedicated curriculum for those from one to five years old.

Jason Snider, mayor of Tigard, said Kiddie Academy is an important addition to the community. He added that that this academy will be advantageous to not only children but to parents and the rest of the community too, as it will bring new jobs into the city. Such positions often have a need for business card printing services.

Kiddie Academy is expected to open in January 2022.
