Folks in Tigard and nearby areas can start their weekend with a Tony-winning musical set in the time spanning the end of the 19th Century and the start of the 20th.
‘Show Boat’, which will be on show in Lake Oswego, tells the story of living along the great Mississippi River during this period, intertwining the issue of racism that prevailed then with a love story. Promoters may have used a combination of brochure printing and poster printing to promote the play locally.
The audience is invited to board the boat and enjoy an epic journey, featuring such musical numbers as ‘Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man’, ‘Make Believe’, and ‘Ol’ Man River’, giving the audience plenty of opportunities to sing along.
Based on a novel by Edna Ferber, the lyrics and book were written by Oscar Hammerstein II and music is by Jerome Kern. The production is being directed by Ron Daum and the musical score is under the stewardship of Jon Quesenberry. Sponsors are Peter and Cyndie Glazer
Tickets for ‘Show Boat’ vary, depending on which seats are selected. It will be on stage starting Friday, May 2, at 7:30 pm at the Lakewood Center in Lake Oswego, Oregon. To learn more about this production, or to purchase tickets, visit the Center’s website or call the box office.
