The Tualatin Valley Symphony will be presenting its family concert next month. Residents of Tigard will not want to miss this annual event.
The music to be performed at the concert was designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages. Among the pieces to be performed will be:
• Babar the Little Elephant by Poulenc
• Caucasian Sketches Suite No. 1 by Ippolitov-Ivanov
• La Gazza Ladra Overture by Rossini
• Prelude from Five Bagatelles for Clarinet and Chamber String Orchestra by Gerald Finzi, featuring Dick Boberg on the clarinet
There will also be an Instrument Petting Zoo for children to have hands-on experiences with the instruments from the orchestra. Poster printing is often used to promote special concerts and its many opportunities such as this one.
Dr. Allan Halbert formed the symphony in 2007 under the name of Starlight Symphony. He designed the symphony to have different offerings such that rarely heard and unique pieces were performed along with those that had never been performed. He would relate the history of each piece and engage the audience whenever possible. There were opera singers, chorale groups, rock music with electronic instruments, and salsa dancers. Dr. Halbert retired in 2012 at which point Mark Perlman became conductor and head of the orchestra.
The concert will take place at the Sherwood Center for the Arts on Sunday February 23 at 3:00 p.m.
