Rise Church in Tigard will be hosting a Food and Fun Day later this month.
Such events are often promoted with Flyers created by local Print shops and distributed throughout the community.
Featured at the event will be ice cream bars and loaded baked potatoes. The Clan Macleay Pipe Band, one of the oldest continually existing bands playing the bagpipes in North America, regularly rehearses inside the church and will be the main entertainment.
The Caring Clowns will also be on hand. This is a non-profit group whose proceeds go to benefit the Oregon Food Bank. There will also be a variety of family games and a featured talk about the Rise Church Tigard community garden.
Representatives from the canine unit of the Tigard Police Department will be on hand in addition to firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue. The Todd Marson Trio will end the event with a jazz performance.
Pastor Jim Wallace said a goal of the church is to end food insecurity in the community. To fulfill this goal, the church hosts the community garden and is involved in the Tigard Food Project. In addition, members of the church bring Bags of non-perishable goods monthly for distribution at St. Anthony's food pantry.
The Food and Fun Day will take place this Saturday, September 10 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
