Meridian Park, a medical facility in Tualatin, less than five miles from Tigard, recently received a donation of $5m.
The money came from David Thompson, Sr., who owns TEC Equipment, which is a full-service truck dealer. Thompson has made other donations, but gave the largest amount so far to Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center, noting that the community is getting larger and needed more substantial facilities as well.
The money will go to help build a replacement for a medical/surgical patient room, and to enlarge the medical office building. The renovated building will be finished in 2019, and will be a three-story structure, with 48 surgical beds and 48 medical beds available.
The rooms will be almost doubled in size, going from 165 to 300 square feet to meet current standards of healthcare. Thompson's generous donation will not completely pay for the project, but will cover a substantial portion of the costs.
It appears that the facility may name the lobby after Thompson. Officials argued that this will indicate to others that the money for improvements did not appear out of nowhere, but that someone appreciated what the medical center does enough to support it financially.
Once renovations are finished, medical center officials could work with brochure printers on a mailer for residents in the area, letting them know of the improvements.
