Portland cidery takes top honors at competition

Oregon cideries took home 9 medals from the International Cider Awards, with the top trophy going to Portland’s very own Portland Cider Co.

Having started in 1888 and being held every two years since, some of the world’s best cidermakers judge cider entries from all around the world at the awards. This year, the competition was held in Manchester England, with the award ceremony taking place at Guildhall, London.

Three cider categories make up the International Cider Awards, comprising a total of 15 classes. Oregon cideries claimed five of seven medals in the Tannic Cider category, demonstrating a command of both modern and European cider styles. Three Oregon cider makers, 2 Towns Ciderhouse, Bauman’s Cider, and Portland Cider Co., received awards.

Local printing services have been known to help alcohol producers Print labels for their products, as well as assist with their design. Bauman’s Cider founder, Christine Walter, explained the reason for Oregon’s robust cider industry this way:
“I can’t help but attribute our success on the international stage to this richness and depth of friendships in the industry that drive us individually and collectively to bring our very best ciders to the table, again and again.”

The top honor, equivalent to a ‘best in show’ award went to Original Gold cider from the Portland Cider Co., along with a silver medal for its English Pub cider. Bauman’s was awarded 2 gold and 3 silver medals, while 2 Towns received a gold and a bronze medal.
