Portland's Bridge Pedal returns this August, presenting an opportunity for both novice and experienced cyclists to bike on Portland's streets and bridges free of cars.
During the ride, participants can enjoy views of the West Hills and the Cascades from the interstate highway bridges in downtown Portland. People can also choose to walk the routes, which are five miles long, during the event.
Bridge Pedal, which began in 1996, offers several experiences during the event. One of the most popular is the Fremont Express. It includes an early morning breakfast while watching the sunrise on the Fremont Bridge, after which participants can ride through downtown on the I-405 toward the Marquam Bridge. There is also a Kids Pedal event, which is a free ride for children. Riders can also enter the 6-Bridge Challenge, which encourages cyclists to ride over six of the Willamette River bridges.
There will also be plenty of entertainment during the ride, including Boko Marimba on the Marquam Bridge and Takohachi drummers on the Fremont Bridge.
Many event coordinators use flyer printing services to help get the word out before they take place.
The Portland Bridge Pedal will take place in various downtown locations on the morning of Sunday, August 9. Costs begin at $40. Riders are encouraged to enjoy the morning with friends, family, and neighbors.
