Coming this December, Portland residents have the chance to experience the steam locomotive excursions carrying passengers along the city’s riverfront.
Run by the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation, the Holiday Express features round-trip train rides in retro rail cars hauled by the Polson #2 steam locomotive. Attendees get to meet the special guests, Santa Claus and his elves. They will ride onboard each train and greet passengers as they walk through the cars. The ride is 45 minutes long and follows the Willamette River, featuring enclosed heated cars.
The Holiday Express has been one of the foundation’s largest recurring functions since 2005 and functions as a major fundraiser for the nonprofit. The foundation’s Oregon Rail Heritage Center is a railway museum and has been open to the public since 2012.
Holiday fundraisers in Portland commonly rely on local promotion. Flyer printing can be an effective approach for community groups to share event details with neighbors. Parking for this event is free, and purchasing advance tickets is recommended because many trains sell out.
The Holiday Express will operate on certain Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from November 27 through December 27, with take-off times between 10 am and 7 pm varying by day. The Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation is presenting the event, located at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center, located at 2250 SE Water Avenue, Portland.
