According to co-founders Jeff and Lynda Parrish, they have decided it time to move Portland Cider’s focus from taphouse operation toward distribution. The company, which launched in 2013, is now the state’s second largest cider maker, distributing in Oregon, Washington, California, and Colorado.
Husband and wife José and Shani Gonzalez, founders of La Familia Cider, have operated a taproom in Salem since 2020. Their children, Jazzelle and Jay Jay Gonzalez, ages 26 and 29 years old respectively, help run the company.
Jay Jay will be overseeing the new taproom here in Portland, while Jazzelle will continue to run the Salem taproom.
Banner printing services are particularly helpful to new food and beverage establishments.
First-generation Mexican Americans, José and Shani based their ciders on their culture’s traditional fresh fruit beverage, aquas frescas, which they drank as children.
Food options at La Familia’s new taproom will be limited according to Shani, who explained:
“The three main items that we’re considering are tortas, chilaquiles, and quesadillas. A lot of the things we’re going to get, like the tortillas, queso, and chips, will be from local Portland and Salem companies.”
The switchover of the Hawthorne location in Portland from Portland Cider to La Familia Cider is scheduled for May 1, just in time for Cinco de Mayo.
