There are times when owning a home can be a pricey proposition, especially when it comes to minor electrical repairs. Help is on the way, as a Portland workshop will be equipping members of the public with knowledge and skills that will allow them to complete these tasks on their own.
The syllabus for the ‘Intro to Electrical Workshop for Homeowners’ will include both instruction and hands-on experience, and each of the people who participate will be going home knowing how they can replace switches, outlets, and light fixtures. There will also be a discussion of which chores can safely be performed by a homeowner, and which would be better handled by a pro.
The class in intended for those who are new to electrical repairs. The students will learn how to spot problems, determine what is causing them, and also how to decide if they can safely fix them themselves. Since the participants will be working with electricity, safety will be a top priority, and the focus will be on 110 volt wiring. Local Print shops can use techniques such as comb binding to craft manuals that can be distributed during an event like this.
Tickets for this learning opportunity are $50, and to help make sure everyone is able to attend no matter what their life circumstances might be, those who purchase one are asked to make a donation. These will be used to offer workshop scholarships to those in need.
Held on January 7, the event will take place at 3625 N Mississippi Ave starting at 6:00 pm.
