Stow to see opening of new department store

T.J. Maxx will be moving to the Stow Community Shopping Center on Kent Road.

It will be moving into what was a Bed Bath & Beyond Store, but has been vacant since February 2021. The space is just over 24,000 square feet in size.

A zoning certificate and permit was issued for construction in July 2021, and Ace Lighting Services LLC based in Avon applied for a permit to post Signs in front of and behind the building. Local Print shops often help to spread the word about such new stores throughout the community with Flyers and mailers.

Mayor John Pribonic is happy the building is being reused, adding it will be ideal for the model of what is currently in the shopping center. T.J. Maxx will be joining such retailers as OfficeMax, Kohl’s, Old Navy, and Ultra Beauty, and will serve those from the communities of Kent, Munroe Falls, Akron, Talmadge, and Hudson, as well as Stow.

In the meantime, the asphalt pavement in the shopping center parking lot is being removed and replaced due to the installation of a storm sewer. The project will take place in five separate phases so as not to disrupt movement in the parking lot.

The store is expected to open later this month, while the parking lot project is expected to be completed over the summer.
