Stow holds contest for largest maple tree

Nominations for the Big Tree Contest of 2026 by the Urban Forestry Commission of the city of Stow are now being accepted.

Homeowners who believe they have the maple tree that is the largest in the city can submit their applications to the city. To be eligible for this contest, the tree needs to be a maple tree as no other tree types will be considered and located on private property in the city of Stow. Trees that are owned by the city or are public trees are not eligible for this contest.

More details about such contests, eligibility, and the submission process is often disseminated with flyer printing.

All trees that are nominated will be verified by qualified personnel using a measurement that measures the diameter of a tree trunk. This helps to estimate a tree’s age, volume, biomass, and health. Those who submit a nomination are allowing a member of the Urban Forestry Commission to access one’s property to confirm the measurements of the tree.

First place will win a $100 gift card while second place will win a $75 gift card. A $50 gift card will be awarded to the third-place winner. The first-place winner will also be recognized on the Urban Forestry website, on social media, and in an e-newsletter.

The deadline to submit nominations is Wednesday September 30.
