The Akron Marathon is now in its twelfth year, and race organizers are expecting more participants than ever, no doubt coming from areas like Stow to take part.
The race has increased to five times the size of the first one, run in 2003. This year, the run is expected to draw 15,000 people.
The exciting day will comprise team relays, a half-marathon, and a full marathon. Space is limited for each event, and the popular team relays were sold out by September 15. The Akron Marathon is a pre-qualifier for the Boston Marathon, and runners will follow a USATF Certified Course.
Race organizers seek to bring national and international attention to the Akron area through promoting wellness and health, bringing in significant revenue as they do so. The race highlights qualities such as philanthropy, volunteerism, athleticism, and community pride. Some people even build family outings around the event, which is designed as a sort of tour of Akron completely entirely on foot.
Participants cannot register on race day; they must do so prior to the event. The last chance for participants to register is September 26, provided the events are not already sold out. The race itself is slated for this Saturday, September 27. Race organizers could work with a banner printing company to create start and finish Banners for the course, as well as directions throughout the course.
