Ground has been broken by AMF-Bruns of America on a new production facility in Stow on Campus Drive.
The company manufactures wheelchair and occupant securement systems to safely transport people with limited mobility and is a division of AMF-Bruns Group based in Germany. The new facility will span 41,000 square feet.
Jan Woltermann, managing director, said the company has outgrown its current building in Hudson. Once the facility is completed, the operations of the company will move from Hudson to the new location in Stow. Currently 20 people work at the Hudson facility and the new facility will enable the company to add 10 more jobs over the next two years.
Flyer printing can be used at the appropriate time to inform residents in the area of such job openings.
Woltermann said that the company started in a facility that was rented because they were unsure of their success in the United States. He said that 14 years later, the company is growing quite rapidly so the original facility is too small. He added that the company was originally looking for a used facility, but it was decided to build their own facility in the area.
The grandson of founder Gustav Bruns, Gerit Bruns, said that this new building is more than a construction project but is the start of a new chapter in the growth of the company. Woltermann expects the new building to be completed within one year.
