Styx tribute opening in Newark

A tribute band will be in Newark to honor one of rock's biggest bands, led by one of the original band members.

Dennis DeYoung is bringing the Grand Illusion 40th Anniversary Tour to the Midland Theatre. He has created a show called “Dennis DeYoung and the Music of Styx” that performs the music of his former outfit.

Styx released “The Grand Illusion,” which was their seventh album, in 1977, and it proved to be their breakthrough effort, earning a certification of Triple Platinum status. One of the tracks “Come Sail Away,” which DeYoung wrote, made it to No. 8 on the top-ten list, as well as becoming a staple on Album Oriented Rock (AOR) radio stations. Another track from the album, “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)” also charted that year.

At the upcoming concert, DeYoung and his group plan to perform the entire “Grand Illusion” album, in addition to some of the Styx songs that made it into the Top Ten, such as “Mr. Roboto,” and “Lady.”
