Special music camp in Newark

The Midland Theatre will soon be the place to be for an upcoming music camp.

Moxie Camp is a three-day workshop offered for free with the support of the Licking County Foundation, the NEA, the Ohio Arts Council, and other agencies. The activity is open to people of all abilities and ages, but pre-registration is necessary and can be done by simply calling the theater.

The subjects to be covered in Moxie Camp are composition, improvisation, training the ear, learning about an instrument in new ways, visualizing life as a working musician, and re-imagining what type of music can be played on an instrument. Flyer printing can be used to create class schedules to enhance events like this.

Instruction for the camp will be handled by the Moxie Strings, who are Alison Lynn and Diana Ladio. Each holds a Bachelor of Music in music education and music performance, which gives them the technical foundation needed to explore the more unusual aspects of their instruments. Alison performs on an electric cello, and Diana plays the violin. The Moxie Strings compose most of the works they perform and have succeeded in blending genres into something new. The Grand Rapids Press calls them:

“. . top-notch, instrumental wizardry.”

Moxie Camp is scheduled for July 13-15, from 9.00 am until 12.00 pm on the 13th and 14th, and from 9.00 am until 11.00 am on the 15th. The last day is shorter to allow attendees to get ready to perform that evening at 7.00 pm.
