Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, a popular chain of spicy fried chicken restaurants, is opening a location in Newark.
The store will be on North 21st Street, taking over a vacant office complex. The Newark store is only the second Popeyes to be located in Licking County, though there are nine others in central Ohio.
The locations for Popeyes' stores are found by Anthony Mazonkey. He believes the location on 21st should be a good site for the operation, saying the chain wanted to open in Newark. He is especially optimistic because there is a lot of traffic along North 21st Street.
Jeff Hall, the Mayor of Newark, said the city was excited about having a Popeyes in the city, saying the chain is growing, as well as being well-established. He also feels that a restaurant will fit the location better than the office complex did.
Popeyes was founded in 1972 in New Orleans, and features menu items typical of the food served in Louisiana. Some of its offerings include jambalaya, spicy chicken, fried shrimp, red beans and rice, and other seafood entrees.
When the eatery gets ready to open, its operator might consider working with a flyer printing company on a handout for locals, inviting them to try the new restaurant. If a coupon is included, it might persuade even more people to give it a try.
