Newark schedules meeting about sewer and street work

Preliminary designs and engineering studies are ongoing for the Fourth Street Combined Sewer Separation and Street Rehabilitation Project in Newark, and city officials are letting people know crews will be conducting surveys in the community.

According to an article on the city's website, the work will involve portions of Granville Street, West Locust Street, North Fourth Street, National Drive, and South Fourth Street. Arcadis, a consulting firm, has been contracted by the city to develop plans and the necessary studies to carry out the project.

Arcadis is using Resource International, Jezerinac Geers, Wellers and Associates, Inc., GPD Group, and OHM Advisors as subconsultants. Representatives from any of these firms may have to enter residents' properties to perform the survey and collect data. The city advises residents that contractors will carry a copy of the letter that appears on the website, which they will display upon arrival. They will also notify occupants when they arrive at a property, and when they leave. Officials in this type of situation could use graphic design to create temporary identification badges.

Crews have been instructed to preserve land and property. If any vegetation has to be removed to finish the survey, the property owner will be notified, and given instructions how to file a claim for reimbursement.

A public meeting to discuss the project has been scheduled for April 24, from 6.00 pm until 8.00 pm, at the City of Newark Water Administration Office on South 5th Street.
