Newark companies win top honors

Two of Newark’s financial companies have won spots on the list of Central Ohio’s top 50 places to work, and one of them won an additional award for ethics.

First Federal Savings and Loan, and Fiberglas Federal Credit Union, won slots among the top six small businesses, which are defined as having 124 employees. The awards were based on anonymous surveys by company employees.

First Federal also won the ethics award, which is not limited to small companies. Lindsay Englefield, the company’s VP of marketing, said the firm was very excited about receiving the award, since being praised for ethics is the finest award a financial institution can win.

Fiberglas Federal has 58 employees and was founded in 1940; it landed in fifth place on the list. First Federal, which has 54 employees and opened its doors in 1934, was right behind it in sixth.

Fiberglas Federal spokesperson Shani Smith-Reed noted that working where a person feels that their contributions are important is priceless. She added that the credit union always tries to improve its members’ financial situations, and the award confirms that it is doing the jobs it is supposed to do.

Officials from the two institutions might consider working with a banner printing company to create colorful items to display outside their doors, announcing the awards to the public.
