Newark celebrates a legend in October

A Diamond celebration is coming to Newark—Neil Diamond, that is.

I Am, He Said is a tribute to the legendary singer/songwriter whose hits like “Sweet Caroline” and “Cracklin' Rosie” have kept people rocking for decades. Diamond began writing songs when he was a teenager, and won a recording contract with Columbia in 1962. Although his releases were critically praised, they did not chart, and Columbia released him.

His breakthrough came seven years later when he recorded “Cherry, Cherry,” and “Solitary Man,” which hit the charts; the latter remains a staple in his performances to this day. In the course of his career, Diamond has sold over 130 million records.

I Am, He Said, stars Matt Vee, who is a nephew of Bobby Vee, a singer who had 38 hits on the charts in the 1960s. Matt Vee treats Diamond's materials with respect and performs his songs the way Diamond himself would, without any glitzy touches not true to the original. A review of Vee's performance said:

“Pulling off Neil Diamond, his sound, his band, the voice, not an easy task. This group does it with absolute precision and had the audience standing in the isles dancing and singing along. Absolutely incredible!”

The show is scheduled for October 2, at 8:00 pm, which is a rescheduling from an earlier date. Ticket holders will be able to use those they already purchased. Brochure printing can provide programs for events such as this.
