A new Summer Safety Initiative for 2024 has been announced in Newark.
Kyleesha Wingfield-Hill, director of the Office of Violence Prevention and Trauma Recovery (OVPTR); Fritz G. Fragé, public safety director; Lakeesha Eure, deputy mayor of public safety, and mayor of Newark, Ras J. Baraka have collaborated on this new program, which will include a comprehensive array of programs and services for young people.
Mayor Baraka said that the primary objective of this program is to ensure that all residents of Newark enjoy a fun-filled and safe summer. He added that the city is using the leadership of the OVPTR in pursuing this goal. He said that this office is dedicated to meeting the social and practical needs of the youth in Newark. These can range from career development to educational programs, referral services, and healing circles, as well as fine arts, dance, music, and other programs based on entertainment and education.
Wingfield-Hill said a calendar has been compiled with numerous programs and fun events. She added that there are Pop-Up Play Streets, Movie Nights, and Kids and Cops, among others. She said that these programs will complement the offerings provided throughout the year, which include needs-based referrals, job-training programs, and other social services.
Such special initiatives can turn to flyer printing to provide more information about activities, programs, and other services.
This initiative is scheduled to begin tomorrow, May 3.
