Licking County communities, including Newark among others, have buildings and land available, which is proving very attractive to new industry.
There are more large industrial buildings—those that offer more than 50,000 square feet of space—available in Licking County than in eight other neighboring counties combined.
Licking County has been a hub for manufacturers of all kinds of products for many years, according to Mark Johns, the mayor of Heath. Although the items being produced have changed over the years, Johns says, the skills and ethics of the Licking County workers has remained the same, and draws companies to the area.
According to Grow Licking County's economic development director, Dan Evers, Licking County is the only area in the region where spec buildings are not only being built, but occupied. Evers says the spaces available are widely varied, high in quality, and developers are willing to wait to find the right tenants to occupy them.
In Newark proper, Grow Licking County listed 14 industrial sites available for sale or lease. One space is on Main Street and offers 125,000 square feet; another 95,000 square foot space is on Coffman Road; and a third, comprising 95,720 square feet is on Manning Street.
