Iconic group coming to Newark

A rock band that has earned its place in music history is on its way to Newark.

The Gin Blossoms will appear at the Midland Theatre, bringing a sound alternately described as a “southwestern sound,” “jangle pop,” “rock” and “alternative rock,” to their fans in the Midwest. Gin Blossoms started out in Tempe, Arizona, in 1987. They began to win recognition in 1992, when they released “New Miserable Experience,” their first album on a major label. They released “Hey Jealousy,” a single off the album, and it went gold as well as breaking into the Top 25. The album itself wound up going quadruple platinum, and four other singles hit the charts as well.

Their next album, “Congratulations I'm Sorry,” which they released in 1996, went platinum. “As Long as It Matters,” a single off that album, won a Grammy nomination. The band broke up, but reunited in 2001, and has been busy recording and performing ever since.

A review of a live Gin Blossoms concert said the band had lost none of its magic:

“All told it was a masterful performance, no less, and showed the guys . . . not only have much left in the tank but a seemingly constant touring schedule has not burned the band out from playing or from each other.”

They will be at the Midland at 8.00 pm on April 17, and VIP packages are available. Poster printing can be used successfully to publicize events like this.
