Funny man to visit Newark

An up-and-coming comedian is set to appear at Thirty One West.

Jason Banks is based in Columbus, Ohio, and has been rising through the ranks of young stand-up comedians quickly. He has won a number of contests throughout the state, including being named the “Funniest Person in Columbus” at a contest held at the Columbus Funny Bone. He has also performed at venues throughout the country, including the legendary Apollo in Harlem. The Apollo opened in 1914, when it was known as Hurtig & Seamon’s New Burlesque Theater. The name was changed in 1934, when Black patrons were admitted for the first time. Today, it is on the National Register of Historic Places.

He has also appeared on radio and television, being a featured performer on Laff Mobb’s Laff Tracks on TruTV; the LOL Network, a YouTube channel created by Kevin Hart; and Sirius Satellite Radio. Banks also takes part in a podcast recorded in Columbus, “Comedians on South High,” with Jared Blinsky, Kenny Mock, and Bobbie Dodds.

Banks’s style of telling stories has been described as over-exaggerated, which makes them even funnier. In addition, his warmth and charm enable him to connect with his appreciative audiences. Jason Banks will be at Thirty One West, Newark, on April 30 at 8.00 pm.
