Funds being collected for a playground in memory of Michael Wise

Fundraising efforts for Michael’s Playground, in memory of 6-year-old Michael Wise, began in January and will continue until the $30,000 goal is met. Currently, almost half of the goal has been met.

In September of last year, the young blue-eyed, brown-haired boy with a contagious smile died in a tragic go-cart accident at Circleville Raceway Park when his go-cart collided with a small motorcycle. In an effort to find a fitting tribute to the bright-eyed youth, plans began to unfold for a new playground at Michael’s school in which he would be memorialized.

Michael attended first grade at St. Francis de Sales School with the sons of Maura Urban, who first began talking with teachers at the school about a memorial playground in Michael’s honor. Fundraising efforts for the new school playground began in January. A large number of Newark businesses and individuals have held fundraisers and donated the proceeds to the construction of Michael’s Playground.

Those interested in holding fundraising events or collecting funds for special projects such as Michael’s Playground might announce the effort by drawing up a flyer, printing multiple Copies and distributing the Flyers throughout the community. Some fundraising efforts might also use banner printing or other printing services to draw the community’s attention to the fundraiser.

The current playground at the St. Francis de Sales School is over a decade old. The equipment needs to be replaced and certain parts of the playground need to be updated. Michael’s parents are hoping that the new playground will offer something for students of all ages. It will include the traditional playground equipment, such as slides and swings, but they are hoping to add some new and exciting features, such as a rock climbing wall to appeal to a large number of children.
