Beekeeping class to return to Newark

The Earl James Bee School will come back to Newark in January to give a one-day workshop on keeping bees.

The Earl James Bee School is a program offered by the East Central Ohio Beekeepers Association (ECOBA) that introduces people to beekeeping. Aspiring beekeepers will learn about topics such as how to take care of bees, honey production, and the components of a hive. Students will also be taught pest management techniques and how to prepare bees for the winter. The instructors at the school are experienced beekeepers.

The ECOBA is a group that helps support beekeeping in counties like Perry, Licking, and Fairfield. The organization has members who are hobby, commercial, and retail beekeepers. Those who become part of the ECOBA receive access to the latest information on beekeeping practices. Members can also attend monthly meetings at Taft Reserve South. The meetings are also potluck dinners, so all guests are encouraged to bring a dish to the events.

The beekeeping class will be offered on Saturday, January 20th and will begin at 9:00am. People can also take part in an identical course offered on Sunday, January 21st. Single students can pay $69 to join the course, which includes the cost of a workbook. Organizations with classes like this may also use brochure printing to make custom educational materials for their guests.
