The East Central Ohio Beekeepers Association (ECOBA) will be organizing a course in January at Taft Reserve South in Newark.
The ECOBA Earl James Bee School is a learning experience where students will be taught about raising bee colonies and maintaining their hives. Specific beekeeping topics covered during the class include the organization of the colony, honey production, and how to manage bee illness. Participants will also learn about wintering their bees and handling pests. Students will be given a workbook and can get a discount on hive kits.
The ECOBA wishes to promote public awareness of the importance of bees and supports beekeeping in the counties of Fairfield, Licking, Muskingum, and Perry. Members of the group will receive updated beekeeping information and can attend monthly potluck meetings. The organization also attends the Ohio State Beekeepers Fall Conference. Those who help organize conventions such as this may use brochure printing to provide visitors with educational resources.
The beekeeping course will take place on Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Single registrants for the class must pay $65. Lunch will be provided to all students during the lesson. Additional attendees can be added for a reduced fee, and sales for the course will end on January 15. People may also donate to the ECOBA’s scholarship fund.
