Popular vocalist to appear in Cincinnati
A vocalist who has built a fervent following with live performances and television appearances will perform soon in Cincinnati.
Storm Large began singing when she was a child and went on to graduate from New York’s American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She relocated to San Francisco where she gigged in clubs before relocating to Portland. She initially pursued a career as a chef, but in 2002, a cancellation opened a spot at Dante’s, a Portland club. Her initial appearance became a standing weekly engagement for her new group, Storm Large and The Balls.
The group began to gain a following with their “mash-ups” of hits by artists like Led Zeppelin and ABBA. Her big break came in 2006 when she made it to the finals on Rock Star: Supernova. She didn’t win, but her fanbase increased exponentially.
She continued her climb when she appeared in “Cabaret” at Portland Center Stage, receiving raves. She wrote and starred in her own show, “Crazy Enough,” a musical memoir that sold out Portland Center Stage for 21 weeks. She took her show to New York, Australia’s Adelaide Festival, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
She may be best known for her work with Pink Martini, appearing with them for the first time in 2011 when the group performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., selling out all four performances.
Storm Large will be at the Ludlow Garage on December 4. Events like this can benefit when organizers publicize them using poster printing.
