Springtime celebration planned for Port Washington area

The warmer weather and longer days of spring are just around the corner for Port Washington, and a local park is, at the time of writing, hoping to celebrate the arrival of the new season.

Sands Point Preserve Conservancy will be welcoming members of the public for a special day of activities that mark the arrival of spring. Assistance is needed to help keep the park’s flower, herb, and other beds looking their best, and the attendees will also install flowers to attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators.

Along with lending a hand in the gardens, visitors can take part in a pond exploration activity led by biologist Eric Powers. He will show how the resident creatures and plants adapt to the changing seasons, and the kids in the crowd will be able to make a bird feeder, acorn pendant, and other simple craft projects to take home with them.

Admission to this event is by the carload, and the fee will be $15 for members and $25 for non-members. This admission price includes parking. Signs that can help to keep this type of function organized can be obtained from area Print shops, and these can be crafted from materials that can withstand being used outdoors.

This warm welcome to spring hopes to be open to the public on April 26. More information about the afternoon is available on the Sands Point Preserve website.
