Port Washington plans free outdoor concerts

The Sousa Bandshell Committee and Port Washington Public Library will be presenting a summer full of music with their Concerts at the Band Shell series.

The series will open with a performance by the County Line band, a Long Island-based group playing everything from modern country to Southern rock staples. The following week will see the Liverpool Shuffle performing a tribute to the music and style of the Beatles. The Library Jazz Band will finish out the month of June with an ensemble performance.

On July 4 the Bandshell will host a grand “Happy 250th Birthday America Celebration” presented by Landmark on Main Street, with more details to come. The Port Washington Community Band will play on Friday nights throughout July. The concerts will continue every Friday night with artists like Dave Diamond Band and The Fabulous Acchords, before concluding on Labor Day weekend with a showing by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Band.

The summer concert series has been a long-running part of the summer in Port Washington, drawing inspiration from the town being the former home of legendary “march king” John Phillip Sousa. Outdoor concerts like this are often seen as a form of education, with speeches and brochure printing sometimes used to provide context to the music.

The 2026 Concerts at the Band Shell series will take place every Friday from June 12 to September 4 at the Sousa Memorial Bandshell in Port Washington’s Sunset Park.
