The show will feature a variety of Long Island performers providing their renditions of famous songs and musical numbers written by Chapin, such as “Cat’s in the Cradle”, “Taxi” and “Story of a Life.” Chapin was a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and was also noted as a campaigner against world hunger. The event was hosted on what would be his 82nd birthday.
Musician Stuart Markus is organizing “Just Wild About Harry” as well as performing in the show. In promotional material Markus explains that performers will be encouraged to put their own spin on Chapin’s songs:
“For 20 years, the Long Island music community has come together to commemorate Harry by playing his songs around the anniversary of his tragic passing. We’ve had some amazing arrangements, from folky to country, from torch-song style to hard rock.”
Proceeds from the event will go towards the Long Island Cares food bank, which was founded by Chapin. Attendees are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate. Charity or tribute concerts like this often use poster printing and radio advertising to help attract local music fans.
The 2025 edition of “Just Wild About Harry” will take place on December 2 at the Landmark on Main Street theatre in Port Washington, New York.
