Concert transforms Port Washington into jazz club

Landmark on Main Street will be holding its first “Jazz Club” concert this August in Port Washington, featuring some local standouts.

The concept aims to transform the theater into a fashionable nightclub from decades past, using curtains to create a sense of intimacy and a small 150-seat audience. The first concert will be headlined by Port native Reza Khan. Khan is a Bangladesh-born jazz guitarist who is known for his fusion of jazz with other influences like pop, soul, and world music.

The concert will also feature special guests and “All-Stars” including saxophonist and vocalist Paula Atherton, keyboardist Al Degregoris, bassist Leo Traversa, and drummer Mauricio Zottarelli as supporting acts. All of the featured artists have received recognition from critics and jazz radio charts.

The Jazz Club show is part of the Landmark on Main Street initiative, which brings a number of concerts and other performances to Port Washington. Concerts like this often use poster printing and local radio advertising to help connect with area music lovers. Marketing for the show states that:

“Landmark is reimagining the Jeanne Rimsky Theater by reducing its footprint to create a more intimate setting where audiences can fully immerse themselves in the music [...] all aimed at establishing the area as a destination for world class contemporary jazz.”

The Jazz Club concert will take place on the evening of Saturday, August 22 at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater.
