The Cajun music group BeauSoleil will be visiting Port Washington next month as part of a tour to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The group, headed up by Michael Doucet, represents the Acadian culture of Atlantic Canada, and has performed around the world over the last half-century. A two-time Grammy winner, the ensemble is a front-runner of the Cajun scene and will be playing a mixture of songs inspired by American blues, jazz, and rock, as well as Caribbean styles like zydeco.
For their anniversary tour, BeauSoleil will be performing alongside Richard Thompson, a veteran rock artist who is credited with inventing the genre of British folk rock along with his band Fairport Convention. Thompson, now aged 76, will be performing songs from throughout his own decades-long career, including ones that have been recorded by other rock icons.
The Port Washington concert will be part of the 50th anniversary tour that will take BeauSoleil and Thompson around the Northeast, with a focus on smaller towns and venues. Other stops include the Cabot in Beverly, Massachusetts, and the Tupelo Music Hall in Derry, New Hampshire. Concert tours like this often use flyer printing and radio advertising to help reach local music lovers.
The BeauSoleil 50th Anniversary concert in Port Washington will take place on the evening of Sunday, November 23 at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater.
