Port Washington workshop to help point the way to garden success

Spring is on the way, and Port Washington gardeners who are itching to get their hands dirty won’t have to wait much longer.

Early spring can be a great time of the year to do some early direct seeding of greens and other food crops, and guests at an upcoming session may even learn how they can start their own transplants as well. The session will be focused on both greens and root vegetables, and while the participants engage in some hands-on learning, they will also discover the health benefits of the plants they are starting.

The students in the class will find out which plants can benefit from an extra early start, and also how they can make full use of direct sowing techniques out in the garden. If the weather cooperates, they will even have a chance to visit some demonstration beds, and can ask any questions they wish.

Being part of this sort of learning opportunity offers a great beginning for the gardening newbie, and it can also be a valuable refresher for the experienced green thumb. Printed lists of plants that can be sown early in the season, along with gardening Calendars and other items, can be prepared by Print shops to give to each learner who registers for the event.

Glen Cove Public Library will be offering its ‘Seed Library Program: Now Sowing: Potatoes, Peas and Greens Galore’ session on March 28. Registration is mandatory for those who wish to participate.
