In July, Port Washington will play host to the Great Gatsby Boat Tour, which will take guests on a tour of Manhasset Bay and on a literary examination of the acclaimed novel.
Novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald derived much inspiration from Port Washington for his work The Great Gatsby, and he used Manhasset Bay as his central setting. In fact, Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda even rented a home briefly in the Great Neck area, gaining intimate knowledge of the landscape and residents.
The 90-minute boat tour will be narrated by Eleanor Cox-Nihill. The boat will cruise the waters of the “courtesy bay” separating Kings Point (West Egg) and Manhasset (East Egg). Attendees will observe yacht clubs along the shoreline that were founded before the 20th century and continue their legacy today. Great homes of prominent businessmen such as John Hay Whitney and Carl Fisher will also be on display, and the tour will invite guests to imagine what Gatsby’s mansion might have been like had it actually existed.
Tours often include Brochures to guide tourists along the stream of information, and as such, organizers may work with brochure printing services to prepare for such events.
The boat tour is scheduled for July 9 at 1:00 pm. The meeting location will be at Inspiration Wharf on 405 Mainstreet, Port Washington. Tickets are $40.
