Port Washington history buffs should note that the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society will hold the WW1: The Home Front-Guided Docent Tour next month.
The Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society is a historical association dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the Port Washington area. The organization strives to engage people of all ages and backgrounds in educational programs that highlight the experiences and lifestyles of the people who lived and worked on the peninsula throughout the years. The tour will highlight the newest Sands-Willets House exhibition – a nine-room exhibit that examines the US’s relationship with WWI and how it impacted Long Island communities.
Attendees on the docent-guided tour will explore the different experiences of the townspeople and their efforts on the home front through photographs, newspapers, uniforms, military documents, and personal letters. The docents will delve int the LIRR canning train, NYC’s bomb squad, isolation hospitals, the suffragists, and the Radium Girls to tell a unique story of Port Washington’s role in the war.
Guided tours like this will frequently include informative Brochures, which can be created using brochure printing services, to help tour participants learn more about the subject material.
The tour is slated for July 1 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. The Sands-Willets can be found at 336 Port Washington Boulevard. Tickets are $12.
