Halloween is known as a holiday filled with candy, costumes, and family-friendly fun, but the other side of the holiday is made up of people looking for a good scare. The Sands Point Preserve Conservancy is looking to cater to the latter with the Hempstead House of Horrors.
The Hempstead House is a famous landmark in the Port Washington area. Complete in 1912, the house was once the property of Daniel Guggenheim and was known for the extravagance and luxury that went into the estate. According to the Brochures, once every year the old ghosts of the estate come to roam their former haunt, turning the palatial residence into a house of horrors.
Three stories in the 50,000 square foot building have been dedicated to the haunted house, including a subterranean ‘dungeon’. It is a ‘touch’ haunted house, meaning that with permission, the actors will touch, grab, and potentially even capture visitors. This being the case, the Conservancy has set some strict age restrictions. No one under 12 may enter the House of Horrors, and minors aged 12 to 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
The Hempstead House of Horrors will run for five nights only, on October 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm at the Hempstead House, located at 127 Middle Neck Rd. Admission is $30 or $25 for Conservancy members. Anyone interested in more info should visit the website.
