Now in its third year, the event was set up to challenge students to come up with unique designs made from items usually consigned to landfill. Students from nine districts will take part in the event as part of the program.
As well as designing recycled fashions, students will also be taking to the runway to model their creations.
Speaking about the event, Supervisor Judi Bosworth said to Patch.com:
“The ‘Trashion Show’ provides such a unique opportunity for students to express their creativity and imagination while also teaching them the importance of preserving our environment.”
All of the submissions and artwork for the event must be delivered to 802, West Shore Roas, Port Washington by January 9. The entries to the event will then become the legal property of the Town of North Hempstead, eventually being displayed at the Trashion event, which it is hoped will pull in the crowds.
The winning submissions will also be displayed in an exhibition at the New York State Capitol Building during February 2015. The event will take place on January 15, 2015 at the ‘Yes We Can’ Community Centre in Westbury. No doubt poster printing projects will be in force between now and the event date so that publicity and interest can be raised.
