The Nassau County Museum of Art is getting ready to host a presentation by Ben Schonzeit, a photographer known for his role in the American Photorealist Movement that took place in the 1970s.
Schonzeit will discuss the aspects of his work leading up to its take-off in the 1970, continuing to his present day efforts in the field. He will talk about the works featuring in the museum's exhibition as well, so that attendees can see the prints on display. The most prominent piece is Giummo, which was taken in 1973 and is a portrait of one of Schonzeit's friends.
Born in 1942 in Brooklyn, Schonzeit attended Cooper Union in Manhattan, from which he graduated in 1964 with a BFA. The roots of his work began in the 1960s, but it was a decade later that his work and the movement began to be widely acknowledged.
Promoters may turn to printing companies to create Postcards to market this event. Museums often have Mailing Lists for members, and sending reminders to local residents and members who live in nearby towns like Port Washington will no doubt draw in more attendees.
The presentation will take place on Saturday, September 20, beginning at 3:00 pm. There is a $15 admission fee for the general public, which includes museum admission for those who want to explore the site afterward. Members must pay a $5 fee to attend the presentation.
