Autism-friendly morning of exploration planned near Port Washington

A special day of autism family programming for Port Washington families will see them explore the grounds and gardens of Queens Family Farm Museum in a way planned just for them.

Those who come to the two-hour event will be led on a guided exploration of the farm’s fields that will be planted with their summer crops. They will also visit the sensory gardens and tour the historic house. This will be facilitated by museum guides who have a wealth of experience in leading visitors through the site.

While they visit the farm, the guests will meet its sheep, goats, alpacas, pigs, and even some friendly hens. They will also have a chance to feed some alfalfa to the goats, and if they wish, they can hop on the wagon for a tractor-drawn hayride.

The families who participate in the day are welcome to bring along a lunch to enjoy after the tour, and food will also be available for purchase on site. To help ensure the occasion is enjoyable for all, a trip preparation and social story sheet will be available before the event so that parents and caregivers can prepare their child ahead of time. Print shops can be called upon to provide Copies of items such as this.
