Walking tour to teach Farmingdale residents more about past settlers

A local historian will provide insight into area founders and others during an upcoming tour through a Farmingdale cemetery

Farmingdale Village Historian Serena Brochu will lead interested guests on the tour while filling them in with all of the known details about the lives of many notable names residing within the Bethpage Cemetery. The experience is a collaborative effort between the historian, the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts Committee, and the Farmingdale Bethpage Historical Society.

Participants in the small group will be rewarded with plenty of facts and tales about the people that once populated their town and the surrounding communities. The tour is restricted to only 25 participants, but more tours are planned if there is enough community interest. Walking tours encourage people to learn more about their community and the information gleaned from the events can be added to a round of family or business newsletter printing.

The Bethpage Cemetary walking tour is not accessible by wheelchair and may not be safe for people with limited mobility. The uneven terrain and areas of tall grass require people to wear comfortable shoes, and long pants are also recommended.

The tour will begin at 3:30 PM on November 12 at Quaker Meeting House Rd in Farmingdale. Parking is available at the golf course across the street from the cemetery. The rain date for the event is December 3rd, and there is no fee to attend. To reserve a spot, please send an email to arodenburg@farmingdalevillage.com
