Gingerbread house competition to return to Farmingdale

The Chocolate Duck is hosting the 12th Annual Long Island Gingerbread and Chocolate House Competition this December.

This year’s theme is famous or fantasy castles. Contestants can submit their registration Forms by mail or email at any point through December 5, the day before the competition. Judging will take place between 10 am and 12 pm, and awards will be presented at 4 pm after public viewing hours. The judges will consider each entry’s originality, choice and use of materials, overall appearance and difficulty of design.

The registration fee is $5 for youth, which includes the ten and under and 11 to 17 age categories and $25 for adults, which includes the open and amateur categories. Participants also need to specify whether they are building a chocolate or gingerbread house, as these are separate judging categories. The entire structure and all decorations need to be edible.

The house displays will be open to the public from 12 pm to 4 pm. The competition is free for spectators. The organizers will be collecting non-perishable food items for local food pantries. Local businesses often use flyer printing services to promote their seasonal events.

The 12th Annual Long Island Gingerbread and Chocolate House Competition will take place on Saturday, December 6, from 12 pm to 4 pm, at The Chocolate Duck in Farmingdale.
