Farmingdale theater to launch one-act play event

Hardscrabble Theater is hosting its first One-Act Play Festival in Farmingdale this fall.

The festival will feature 10 one-act plays, all written by local playwrights. The shows are being split into two groups, each of which will have an evening and a matinee performance. Program 1 will include Everything’s So Expensive Lately, The Luminous Hour, Dream Date, Stuck in a Rut and When Soulmates Go Wrong. Rob Barlett, a Farmingdale native who has worked on popular Broadway shows like Little Shop of Horrors and Chicago, is directing When Soulmates Go Wrong.

Program 2 includes A Little Old for This, Clairevoyant, Nowhere Gets Busy This Time of Year, Clearing up the Clutter and Solving for the Unknowns. Short descriptions of each play are provided in the Patch event listing.

Tickets are available on the theater’s website now for $28.52, which includes fees. A discounted price of $23.18 is available for seniors, students and first responders. Hardscrabble Theater is a nonprofit that has been hosting theater events for eight years. Its mission is to support local talent and make live theater more accessible for Long Island residents. Local theaters often work with Print shops to make programs for their shows.

Festival participants will perform Program 1 on Friday, October 16, at 8 pm and Saturday, October 17, at 3 pm and Program 2 on Saturday, 17, at 8 pm and Sunday, October 18, at 3 pm.
