Farmingdale to host pet welfare and adoption event

The Nassau County SPCA is hosting its Annual Animal Abuse Awareness and Adoption Event in Farmingdale this May.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their dogs to the event, and those who do not own pets are also welcome. Dogs need to be on leashes. Pet-friendly vendors will have a selection of handcrafted items, pet accessories, customizable collars, live dog paintings and more for sale. Vendors often have Business Cards available for interested customers at this type of event.

Those interested in adopting a pet can meet animals available for adoption from local rescues like the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. Attendees can also learn about short-term fostering opportunities that provide a safe environment for animals waiting to be adopted. Pet owners can purchase “sWag” Bags, which include cat or dog treats and four raffle tickets per bag. Proceeds from the raffle will support the Nassau County SPCA’s work.

The nonprofit SPCA has specifically designated peace officers who enforce animal welfare laws, allowing it to protect animals from abuse and neglect. The group collects and investigates public reports of animal mistreatment. It also runs programs dedicated to keeping pets safe during emergencies and disasters and educates elementary school students about humane treatment of animals.

The 3rd Annual Animal Abuse Awareness and Adoption Event is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, from 11 am to 2 pm, at Farmingdale’s Village Green.
