The Multiple Sclerosis Society will host a Bike MS: Traffic Free Ride 2017 in Farmingdale next month.
Participation in the event will help raise funds for research and offer services for those who are faced with fighting the disease.
Multiple Sclerosis affections thousands of people and is an unpredictable disease that affects the central nervous system. The cause of the disease is still unknown and fundraisers like this provide much needed resources for research to find a cure and, in the meantime, medications to relive symptoms for some sufferers. The MS Society has likely used various media and Direct Mail printing opportunities to educate the public and spread word of upcoming events.
Participants are given information in advance, including maps detailing the route. The organizers will have SAG vehicles traveling the route to assist any riders who have mechanical issues or are unable to complete the ride for any reason. Safety is key so riders must wear helmets and appropriate cycling gear. Although this rides takes cyclists on a 13-mile traffic free route, all cyclists are expected to obey traffic rules and be courteous to others they encounter on the way.
Cyclists are provided with information to assist with their fundraising efforts. It is best to start the fundraising efforts early, as riders must have their minimum donations in order to pick up their race packets.
The ride will take place on Sunday, June 4 at 8:00 am, starting at Bethpage State Park, 99 Quaker Meeting House Road. The ride is open to riders ages 12 and up, and there is a minimum fundraising contribution of $200 per rider.
