Local Womens Club collects shoes for charity

The Women’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF) recently met with Dr. Mary Carlson, who formed ‘Shoes for All’ to donate footwear to those in need.

Shoes for All is a nonprofit founded by Dr. Carlson in 2010 to support men, women, and children who are struggling financially. Dr. Carlson is an award winning podiatrist who graduated from New York College of Podiatric Medicine.

For the weeks prior to the presentation of the shoes, the WCF worked hard to collect gently used or new shoes from residents, family, and friends. They encouraged everyone to look through their closets for shoes they do not wear that would be practical for someone who could not afford to buy them. On November 3, the ladies presented Dr. Carlson with Bags of shoes they had collected during their regularly scheduled meeting.

The ladies were so excited to support this effort that their fundraising activities will continue, and an appearance on Farmingdale Village Hall added to it this month. Local businesses could help support them by placing Boxes inside their stores and places of work with Banners encouraging employees to drop off their gently worn shoes, sandals and boots.

Everyone in the area is encouraged to support the fundraiser as well, in any way they can. Additional information about the idea can be found at its website.
