Fire Department announces 3rd annual drive to support troops

The South Farmingdale Fire Department has announced it will team up again this year to collect donations and letters for US troops.

The event, which runs through the month of May, is supported by Adopt A Battalion, a registered 501(c )(3) nonprofit the mission of which is to collect and send care packages to members of the Armed Forces who are deployed or stationed overseas.

The fire department, which likely raised awareness of this yearly event through Posters and Banners, has teamed up with others this year, including the East Farmingdale Fire Company and the Farmingdale Fire Department.

Those wishing to donate items can drop them off at the three department locations during the month of May from 10:00 am to noon on Sundays. Locals may visit the Adopt A Battalion website for a full list of items needed; these items include magazines, nonperishable snacks, games, and personal hygiene items.

The department also encourages residents to write letters to the soldiers. Information on how to do so can be found on the website, or letters can be delivered to any of the donation locations.

The organization, which is based out of Farmingdale, has delivered more than 40 tons of goods overseas since it was established in 2004.

The South Farmingdale Fire department hopes that this year’s event will be just as successful as past years’ thanks to the donations of individuals and the many volunteers who support the mission.
