Farmingdale to participate in digital charity race

Farmingdale residents can show their support for the Companions in Courage organization this summer by joining a digital race.

The Runner’s Edge Street Mile was originally an athletic event where people would race through Farmingdale, though has now changed to a fully digital multi-month event. Participants can enter in either the One Mile Challenge or the Multiple Miles Challenge. All runners are expected to take photos during their mile-long journeys. Times will be based on an honor system, and some performances may be worthy enough to earn the athlete a special raffle ticket.

Companions in Courage is a charitable group that was founded by Pat LaFountaine. The organization wishes to connect hospitalized children with friends and family members by building interactive play areas in hospitals. The rooms are specially designed by Edwin Schlossberg to stimulate social interactions between patients and their families. Print shops can help charities like this market events to the public and raise awareness for important causes.

The virtual racing challenge will begin on Tuesday, June 16 and will continue until Thursday, July 16. Those who want to run in the event can register for $20 by June 25. Participants will get a special T-shirt for entering the digital race. Companions in Courage will also be hosting a video conference during the event that allows people to interact with Pat LaFountaine.
