Farmingdale residents show love for parks

I Love My Park Day 2018 is a chance for all residents to join in and improve the beauty of Jones Beach State Park.

As part of a statewide event, Jones Beach State Park is seeking people who want to help prepare the area for the busy summer season. Volunteers will be installing a snow fence, removing debris from the beach and creating a beach access mat, among many other tasks.

The event is held each year on the first Saturday in May. Over 8,000 people joined the effort in 2017 and helped with more than 250 projects. Everyone is welcome and there are no age restrictions. All volunteers are asked to bring their own water, snacks, and gardening gloves. A hat, sunscreen, and closed-toed shoes are also recommended.

Jones Beach can accommodate large and small groups and is an opportunity for scouting troops that are ready to earn another badge. Troop leaders can photograph their team in action for their website or poster printing. Farmingdale families can also get in on the action and use their day together for a good cause.

Registration can be completed online. The event is from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon this Saturday, May 5. If registering on May 4, Print the form and bring it along on the day of the event. Jones Beach Park is located at 1 Ocean Parkway in Wantagh.
