Farmingdale residents ring in fall while learning more about the past

The upcoming Historic Fall Festival explores daily life from the days when Sagtikos Manor was established.

The Sagtikos Manor Historical Society is hosting this family-oriented day of fun. It will have a number of children's activities as well as demonstrations that will intrigue family members of all ages. Children will have the opportunity to discover what games kids played during colonial times. Adults can learn more about broom and pottery making, metal smithing, and rug hooking.

The event will take place at Sagtikos Manor and the building and cemetery will be open for self-guided tours during the day. The gift shop will be open and many vendors will be in attendance selling handmade crafts and food. Colonial Musicians will perform throughout the day and the 3rd NY Regiment will also be on site performing maneuvers. There will be plenty of photo opportunities for this year's Holiday Cards, or to decorate Calendars for next year.

The original structure of the manor house was built at the end of the 1600s with additional rooms added over the next 200 years. The site was purchased by Suffolk County in 2002 to preserve the area. However, the Sagtikos Manor Historical Society has been working hard since 1963 to help protect historical locations and keep the stories of the past alive.

The Historic Fall Festival is planned for this Sunday, October 1 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The admission cost is $7 per person or $25 for a family of four. Sagtikos Manor is located at the corner of Montauk Highway and Manor Lane in West Bay Shore.
